Located on Italy's sun-drenched southeast coast, the unique and rustic interiors of Puglia's ancient Masserie buildings speak of a historic past and are inspiring to all those who love rustic living. Surrounded by verdant vineyards and groves of olive trees, the Masserie of Puglia — fortified domestic structures of brick, stone, and concrete dating from the Middle Ages — embody a rich cultural past largely unexplored by the tourists and villa-seekers of Tuscany. Once serving as farmhouses and way stations for those traveling along the Via Appia, these buildings have been renovated to serve as private residences or boutique hotels, with their beautifully preserved interiors thoughtfully adapted and turned into a cool serenity. With striking photography by Mark Roskams, this book offers a previously unseen look into these spaces. Simultaneously austere and luxurious, the simple yet spacious rooms retain their original charm, including stone kitchen fireplaces, churchlike arched hallways, and magnificent marble floors. The rustic reds, golden yellows, and cornflower blues of classic Italy are surprising when set against the dazzlingly white backdrops of medieval stucco and stone. Richly contextualized with original essays by architect and scholar Diane Lewis, this volume will inspire interior lovers with the details of this unique and rustic architectural style.

Coffee and photography are children of our age. Both generate energy and both are fastly enjoyed. Neither needs to be decoded. For twenty years Lavazza has been producing calendars with the exclusive involvement of master photographers who have made history. Photographers who have contributed to the Lavazza calendar over the years have included Helmut Newton, Ellen Von Unwerth, Ferdinando Scianna, Elliott Erwitt, David La Chapelle, Annie Leibovitz, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Finlay MacKay, Miles Aldridge, Mark Seliger and many others. For the first time collected together in a book, these photographs are a depiction of seduction and taste, of beauty and pleasure. Designed as an imaginary voyage of the senses in which the female figure becomes an icon and guide to a parallel world of pleasure and beauty, this remarkable package also features original drawings by one of Italy's best known masters of erotic graphic novels and comics, Milo Manara, paired with a narrative by one of Italy's leading screenwriters, Vincent Cerami. As a special feature, the book also includes the 2012 calendar in which Lavazza continues to celebrate the intimate connection between photography and espresso, pleasure and sensuality.

Unlike most flower-arrangement books, which rely on expensive and often nonseasonal flowers from florists, this book presents an alternative that is in line with the back to nature movement. This is the first volume to showcase how to be inspired by nature's seasonal bounty and bring that nature into the home through floral arrangements. From the well-known lifestyle photographer Ngoc Minh Ngo and Nicolette Owen of Brooklyn's Little Flower School, Bringing Nature Home presents a portfolio of unique and original floral arrangements directly inspired by the seasons and the local environment, with sources ranging from farmers' market offerings to the backyard garden. Presented through lush photography that also showcases the beautiful interiors the arrangements are created for, this is as much a decorating tome as it is a floral-arrangement guide. A how-to section offers advice on the selection, trimming, and care of the arrangements and on repurposed and unique containers, making this book practical as well as inspiring.

The most comprehensive book devoted to the incomparable and iconic work of Yayoi Kusama. Yayoi Kusama, now in her eighties, has become a vital force in contemporary art and an influence on generations of artists. Arriving in New York City in 1958 from her native Japan, she embarked on a series of works that forged a new visual vocabulary — the Net paintings, which were composed of scores of small, thickly painted loops spanning large canvases. Her singular approach to art making continued in other extraordinary bodies of work, including the phallic soft sculptures which she later incorporated into full-scale environments. In 1973 she returned to Japan, where she lives and works today. Since then, she has created dazzling walk-in mirror rooms and her now-famous pumpkin sculptures, as well as writing poetry and novels. In this book — created in close collaboration with Kusama and her Tokyo studio — the breadth and import of this watershed artist's career are considered in depth. In addition to studies of the development of her artistic vocabularies across different media, the book includes ephemera, sketches, and photographs from the artist's extensive archive that have never been seen before. The publication is timed to coincide with the artist's major touring retrospective, which makes its American debut at the Whitney Museum in New York in summer 2012, as well as with the much-anticipated collaboration with powerhouse fashion brand Louis Vuitton.

Kenny Scharf

Страниц: 272 страницы

As one of today's most exciting artists, Kenny Scharf rose to prominence in the New York art scene in the '80s as part of a dynamic and influential group of artists that included Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. He has since returned to California, but he has retained the playful Pop aesthetic for which he is internationally renowned. This complete new volume covers Scharf's illustrious career and his experiences and activities in the downtown art scene. His work is instantly recognizable, with idiosyncratic cartoon creatures popping up in the oddest of places: in paintings, on functional objects, or piled up on top of each other to form huge totem-poles. Richard Marshall helps navigate the reader across the decades of Scharf's career. Carlo McCormick's essay focuses on Scharf's fanciful customized cars and installations. Ann Magnuson reminisces about Scharf's happenings in the East Village and the club scene.
The Ideal Museum

Philippe Daverio is one of Italy's most important contemporary art historians, whose discerning comments about art are voraciously consumed by the public through his writing as editor of the famed magazine Art e Dossier and his platform on a leading Italian television program Passepartout. Now, in his first full-length work of narrative nonfiction, Daverio uses the conceit of creating his own perfect museum gallery and in the process reexamines major artistic masterpieces of Western art. Daverio turns his critical eye on the place of Western art in contemporary twenty-first-century culture and how we relate to art generally. According to Daverio, we relate to the history of art based on views that crystallized in the nineteenth century, and so we look to the past to understand the present, though the present is what truly matters to everyone. Daverio means to challenge this perspective, and guided by his curiosity and personal taste, he examines key masterworks to rediscover the true meaning and power they had before they became commoditized and cliched.

The beginning of a long collaboration, her photographs of Bettie have now been featured on more magazine covers than those of Marilyn Monroe. This glamorous volume gathers more than a hundred lens-fogging photographs embodying the naughty girl-next-door eroticism of pin-up culture. Culled from Yeager's extensive archive, the collection includes her most iconic shots of the legendary Bettie as well as many previously unpublished images. Yeager's pioneering self-portraits and excerpts from her charming 1960s how-to manuals are featured alongside dozens of wholesome beauties shot in the studio and on location. A fun and sexy book, it is sure to tap into the current burlesque trend and the popularity of glamour photography and vintage American culture.
