Indisputably the grande dame of modern design, Andree Putman burst onto the scene twenty-five years ago with the graphic, black-and-white interiors of the Morgans Hotel in New York. Since then Putman has gone on to redefine design for a diverse group of prestigious clients, including Karl Lagerfeld, the French Ministry of Culture, and the interior of the supersonic Concorde. Projects since 1980 range from museum interiors, a jewelry line for Christofle, private residences for global trendsetters, and a film set for Peter Greenaway. Putman's work is the epitome of chic, incorporating cashmere and leather with affordable ceramic tiles and industrial metals for interiors that speak volumes for Putman's unmistakable style of quiet luxury. The same attention to detail is given to a simple necklace as to furniture collections, grand offices, and entire spa hotels. Putman is also credited for the revival of once-forgotten early modernist designers, such as Eileen Gray, Robert Mallet-Stevens, and Jean-Michel Frank, whose designs she put back into production and used in her famous interiors. The first comprehensive monograph on Putman's essential designs in 20 years, Andree Putman Complete Works will be an indispensable road map of style and elegance to all lovers of modern design.

Stanford White (1853-1906), arguably the most celebrated American architect of his day, was the visionary genius of the illustrious architecture firm McKim, Mead & White. A defining figure of the Gilded Age, White lived an extravagant life, which ended prematurely in a sensational death. His celebrity as a result was such that perceptions of the man have to some degree distracted attention from an extraordinary body of work. Now, more than a century since his passing, the enduring quality of White's architectural legacy becomes ever more apparent as the circumstances of his life and death fade to the background. In acknowledgment of this legacy, Stanford White Architect comprehensively explores White's sumptuously rich oeuvre — from the residences he designed for himself and his wife, Bessie, both at Box Hill in Saint James, Long Island, and at Gramercy Park in New York; to the extraordinary and opulent houses he designed for others, such as Rosecliff in Newport, Rhode Island, and the Payne Whitney House in New York; to those works beyond the residential, including such masterpieces as Newport Casino Theatre in Rhode Island, the Century Association in New York, and the no longer standing Moorish fantasy cum pleasure pavilion Madison Square Garden. Stanford White Architect will serve for generations to come as a vivid testament to a resplendent life in architecture.

Celebration. A time when friends and family come together in a breathtakingly beautiful setting to rejoice in one of life's milestones: a wedding, a birthday, an anniversary. Collected in this book are dozens of the most recent, most extraordinary celebrations created by the unparalleled event planner Preston Bailey. These are events on a larger-than-life scale, shaped by Bailey's use of a myriad of elements, including architecture, set design, furniture making, lighting and art installations, and even tableware and textile design. In the first half of this stunning idea book, Preston lays out for the reader the key elements to successful celebrations. First, each event must have at least one dramatic statement, that spectacular element that makes guests stand transfixed with awe, whether it is a cascading waterfall of flowers or a room lit in magnificent jewel tones of color. He discusses the magical nature of tents — a space that exists for just one evening, a blank canvas that provides endless design possibilities — such as creating a canopy ceiling dripping with ribbons and crystals. There is also the ceremony space, influenced by tradition, culture, and a bride's personal style. Next are the table settings, the intimate places within the larger event where centerpieces, china, crystal, linens, and even the chairs, all work together to create a place of comfort and beauty but also a place that constantly intrigues and entices. Finally, he presents the all-important details that elevate a party from merely wonderful to absolutely divine. In the final section of the book, Transformations, Bailey presents the best of his most recent work, seven unforgettable parties presented in their entirety. A dream book, a wish book, a book of celebration.

«The New York Times called the late decorator Mark Hampton (1940-98) «an icon of American Style» and he was indeed one of the most famous and admired interior designers of the twentieth century, highly regarded for both his versatile design work and his own eloquence and flair. A classic American success story, Hampton grew up in small-town Indiana and went on to worldwide fame. He began his career working for the some of the greatest interior designers of the age — David Hicks, Parish-Hadley, McMillen, Inc. — and later went on to found Mark Hampton, Inc. Known for the tremendous depth and breadth of his knowledge, Hampton refused to be pi into a trademark style, moving effortlessly from sleek modernism to English country and back again. A highly popular lecturer who drew crowds, Hampton was the author of two books on design, as well as a designer of both furniture and fabrics. The book begins with a personal essay on Hampton's life and legacy, which is followed by a comprehensive portfolio of his most important decorating commissions for such clients as Estee Lauder, the Henry Grunwalds, the John Heinzes, the John Kerrys, the Carter Burdens, the Saul Steinbergs, the Prentis Cobb Hales, among others, in milieus as diverse as a Southern plantation, an Irish castle, and a Manhattan penthouse. Also documented is Hampton's work on the White House, Blair House, New York City's mayoral residence Gracie Mansion, and the American Academy in Rome. Rich with original materials, including Hampton's watercolors and gouaches, impeccably researched and intimately written by his widow, Duane Hampton, this is a visual feast for all interiors fans as well as an important addition to the history of interior design.»

This elaborate volume, authored by the designer's son, is a splendid celebration of one of the world's most inventive design minds. Combining whimsy and elegance, Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) transformed everyday objects like cups, scarves, and screens into works of art featuring his idiosyncratic leitmotifs, such as the hand, the female face, and luminescent fish. Additionally, he created a wide range of works, including idealized architectural fantasy drawings, book designs, and provocative nudes, as well as the decor for the luxury liner Andrea Doria. Perhaps most famous for dazzling pieces of trompe l'oeil furniture, Fornasetti was rediscovered in the 1980s and has remained much sought-after by collectors worldwide. Featuring 2,800 illustrations, many never before published, the monograph is designed to be an artist's book that reflects as faithfully as possible Fornasetti's own approach to design. Fornasetti's work is organized by type and includes paintings, sculptures and etchings, furniture, graphics, textiles, glass, screens, trays, and ceramics, as well as smaller categories. With unique and exhaustive access to the archives, this epic undertaking covers detailed technical, biographical, and bibliographical information, including a list of exhibitions and a register of the complete works. A must-have for collectors and connoisseurs alike.

This catalogue of the Palladio and His Legacy exhibition, centred on original drawings and books by the most significant and influential architect in the western world, Andrea Palladio (1508-80), examines his personal development and architecture, his influence on others achieved through his I Quattro Libri dell'Architettura, the subsequent dissemination of his teachings through translations and pattern books in Britain and America, and the influence of Palladianism on architecture in the New World. The promulgation of Palladian principles resulted in new and original interpretations that took firm hold in America, influencing both grand formal buildings and smaller utilitarian structures. The drawings are supported by numerous architectural models. Three large examples — the Pantheon, Villa Rotunda, and Jefferson's unrealized design for the White House — programmatically illustrate the journey from Rome to America. Smaller models along with rare architectural texts and pattern books, through which Palladio's ideas were primarily transmitted, reinforce the themes of the book.

Suzanne Kasler is known for her classically inspired rooms, pretty palettes, and comfortable spaces. She brings Southern charm, European sensibility, and a respect for architectural details to her interiors. Her neutral palette, spiced with hits of color, creates warm spaces that are elegant yet inviting. Inspired by fashion, Kasler uses a scarf as a throw, adds grosgrain or satin banding to the bottom of a chair cover, accents draperies with Chanel-like piped borders, or embellishes a bed frame with delicate handpainted patterns. It is these exquisite haute couture details that drive her design aesthetic. Kasler's melange of antiques, midcentury pieces, and modern furniture makes her layered interiors attractive and livable. Lavishly illustrated, this beautiful volume showcases a range of Kasler's projects, from a luxurious Georgian mansion in Atlanta's Buckhead to a sophisticated farmhouse in Tennessee and a beach house in Watersound, Florida. Offering a wealth of original design ideas that are refreshing and full of verve, Inspired Interiors is a welcome addition to any library of interior design books.

Mary McFadden helped define the look of the 1970s with original clothing designs created from textiles picked up on her travels around the globe. With tunics of hand-painted fabrics layered over floating silk pants and pleated Fortuny-like gowns with elaborate embroidery, McFadden created a sensation in the fashion world. This volume explores McFadden’s thirty-year career, from her debut in Vogue in 1972, launching her as a designer, to her subsequent status as a multimillion-dollar brand, famous for looks inspired by historical cultures as well as by her extensive art collection. McFadden was her own best model and was frequently photographed by legends such as Horst P. Horst, Richard Avedon, Sam Haskins, and Norman Parkinson, among others. Her passion and vision translated into wearable works of art that were as collectible as the antiquities that inspired them. This book features both her stunning portraits and singular designs, as well as the places and objects that inspired her. Unparalleled in her dual identities of fashion visionary and erudite art collector, this volume celebrates McFadden’s inspiration and breadth as an incredibly influential tastemaker.
